MOAB

People know I love Moab. We go there frequently, becasue of that Dawn is always telling people to look at our blog to find out where to go, thus the Moab page. This is a list of our favorite hiking, biking, swimming and just plain fun locations.

Hiking
I won't cover Arches because it's not my favorite. However, if you do go there our favorite spots are out of the way. 1- Tower arch. 2-Eye of the whale arch, but exploring in the trailess Herdina park is a blast.

Easy for kids

  1. Corona arch
  2. Negro Bill Canyon (can be a little long for younger ones)
  3. Fisher towers
  4. Professor creek - a little long if you go all the way to the water fall, but you hike in a nice little river (inches deep) with frogs, in a slot canyon (not too narrow however) to a waterfall that is cool to play in.
  5. Moonflower canyon - be aware of the poison ivy. Short hike to a pond. It's supposed to be amazing in a rainstorm
  6. Mill creek canyon left hand fork. Cool place. One of my favorites. By the parking lot there is a river you can play in with a small pool. Hike 15 minutes. KEEP LEFT to a larger swimming hole with cliff jumping and a waterfall you can slide down. (it looks like you can't but i've done it)
  7. Gemni bridges - 5 miles on a dirt road any car could do (okay maybe not a super low sport car). Park hike for one minute to two huge (over 200 feet) bridges you can go out on. Kids think its cool.
A little harder
  1. Cable or Funnel arch. We took the whole family but my wife was not happy. You have to climb a short very steep cliff like area. Then to the arch. (no trail but easy to follow) Once at the arch there is a cable that you can use to climb to the top (you may wanbt gloves), then your possibilities are endless to explore the behind the rocks area of Moab. Very cool. One of my favorites.
  2. Indian chimney. Not really a hike but is at the entrance to moonflower canyon. It's a place the indians used to climb to the top of the rocks. It's like climbing up a crevasse (with the help of wood placed in there) to the top. Maybe 20-30 feet high.

Biking - All except for BMX track can be found on Utah Mountain Biking.com under the "trails" oage
Easy Kid friendly - (I've teaken children as young as 8)
  1. Bar-M loop. Dirt road. Can be long for younger kids, but they all did it.
  2. Big Chief loop out at dead horse point. (various shorter options - very cool views - mostly singletrack. I enjoy this)
  3. Mill Creek trail - goes through moab.
  4. The BMX/stunt bike park - My kids loved this place, it's short but fun to mess around. You can also access another trail here, but we didn't do it.
Not too hard - Beginning wife trails
  1. Klondike Bluffs - Hands down my wife's favorite, not to steep, ssome slickrock and four wheel drive roads, nice short hike into Arches at the end with a cool view.
  2. Moab brand trails - Bar-M, Circle-O, A and B I have ridden most of it. It would be a good place to begin riding on slick rock. Not too steep but I still enjoy.
  3. Big Cheif loop - Excellent option
Trails I like
  1. The whole enchilada - If you ride regularly, you must do this ride. (encompasses porcupine also)
  2. Klondike bluffs - The singletrack portion. fun twisty desert singletrack.
  3. Soveirgn Singletrack - Lot's of fun desert, technical singletrack
  4. Amassa Back - Technical four wheel drive trail. Out and back with an amazing view at the end. Try the optional singletrack down hill instead of going down the road. It's a blast.
  5. Slickrock is fun, if you explore the lesser known trail.

This is a work in progress - I will continue to add more, as I find more.
