White Rim In A Day (W.R.I.A.D.)

The White Rim is a 103 mile, over 9,000 feet of climbing, four wheel drive road in Canyonlands National Park outtside of Moab, UT. I did the trail 20 years ago as a 16 year old teenager, but remembered little of the experience. Lately I had read about many who were riding it in a day, so of course my brother Guthrie and I decided to do the same. It was a rough beginning and I suppose it was an indicator of the ride itself.

The Musical and Artistic Joshua

Joshua is first chair in the Jazz B Band- What that boils down to is that he is the best Trombone in the school. When josh first approached us with the idea of playing the Trombone I was a little hesitant. My musical ability is anythink less than stellar and in-fact believe that I missed the music talent line in heaven. We supportively found him a nice used trombone and it began; 6:30 A.M. Practices everyday, rehearsals after school and the wonderful practicing that reverberates throughout the house. But look at him now. In the festival they attended as a symphony, Josh had a solo and recieved the highest mark.

Esther's Choir Concert

Vineyard Elementary Choir Concert-There are Elementary school choirs and then there is this choir. It is lead by Amanda Barker who has a degree in music from BYU and her mom sings in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She has them do four part harmonies and this year they actually did a song with three different parts, in three part harmony. They are fun to watch and fun to see them get so excited about Music. Esther wanted to sing a solo, the sound is bad, but enjoy the show.

Pony Express Trail 60 Miler

The Pony Express Trail, other wise known as "the Pony". Many stories have been written and recalled about this famous mail trail. In utah it's path is marked by the occasional stone monument and even less occasional metal marker post. Off-road enthusiasts, scouts, hikers, bikers, cattle and sheep men commonly frequent it's path. For us it was a training ride in preparation for the W.R.I.A.D. or White Rim In A Day.

Spring Break 2010

Day 1

We left Orem at 8:30 AM arriving in Moab around 11 AM. After we set up camp I took the three oldest on a ride down Gemini bridges. My wife dropped us off and we rode down hill. My children loved the bridges and we all laid down and gazed over the veritcal void. On the climb out we were fortunate enough to see two mountain goats. After the ride we swam in the Slickrock Campground pool,
