Highland Fling 2010

Highland is a small town located in the northeast corner of Utah County, just south of Alpine. Incorported as a city in 1977, the first Highland fling was introduced in 1978. While the Gillings' family did not arrive in Highland unitl 1980, the highland fling has always been an integral part of the first saturday in August. We love it because it is very catered to children including; art contests, races, music, games, firehose spray, BMX stunt team and a candy drop.

We began the day with an excellent homemade breakfeast of strawberry, whipcream, powdered sugar pancakes, sausage and bacon. We arrived around noon and promptly watched the first stunt show. It was amazing this year because they had the winner of the Dew tour. After that we split up. The oldest three were on there own while the youngest four got wristbands for the blow-up toys. They all spent the next four hours, sliding, jumping, shooting bows, doing obstacle courses and experience the trampoline sling shot.

This was the cabin tour. A woman who lived it it as a child was there sharing how it was decorated inside and what life was like.

At about 5 O'clock the blowups closed so we headed up the canyon for lunch and some exploring and hiking.

Hiking down the weather Guage station trail from the AF summit parking. This place is amazing, tall, straight aspens and very tall green growth. We played hide and seek, cops and robbers, found cool mushrooms and messed around on trees.

Following the canyon trip we reaturned to the Fling for the Fireworks!!
The older four made one more trip to the trampoline sling shot.
This time Caleb participated too.
Overall it was a fun, relaxed day. We all loved it.
